The Great Collapse

The great collapse was an event that happened approximately 70 thousand years ago but the Jéem have deliberately obfuscated it's date because any real knowlege of it has serious Pattern Law implications.

The Jeém predicted the destruction of the human race, using a mathematical approach known as pattern state law. The law described an eventuality so certain it was almost impossible to avoid: the anhiliation of not only all humans but of all life in the universe.

Were it not for the direct intervention of Jéem the human race would have become extinct along with all life in the universe. Based on the distribution of ruined, uninhabitable, once seeded worlds it is estimated that only one in a hundred thousand of all human planets survived the great collapse. Although the numbers of surviving planets are relatively small there are still dozens of inhabited worlds left across 4 galaxies.

Only the Jéem are aware of the exact details of the collapse but it was an inevitable war fought by differingly sophisticated higher humans over the power to live agelessly.

In short, once the dymorphic phage was invented, almost form day one the incredibly rich high-tech armies of the everliving were on a constant retreat from the angry poorer armies of “mere” mortals. The everliving phage was so expensive that soldiers of one side bribed with everlife as a payment while and the armies of the other side determined to open the tech up “for all”. The everliving lost but only after they had assured the destuction of all known enemy planets by performing planet cracking. The Jeém were able to thwart the planet crack of 68 feral worlds but the Jeém did this only so long as they could regress them and now control these worlds through the illumé

The great collapse conflict continues in the form of the determinism war between the eighth monastery and the seven monasteries.
